# Technical SEO audit

> I tell you what is wrong with your site, what each problem costs you and in what order to fix it. A fixed one-month project.

I led SEO at Softonic, with over 1 billion users a year, and at word.tips, with peaks of 2 million daily visits. Former Google Search engineers hired me to run their SEO at Cliqpod and Reverse Tech.

## Who it's for

- Your organic traffic has stalled or dropped and you do not know why.
- You suspect part of your site contributes nothing.
- You are about to invest in SEO and want to know first where the problem is.
- You work with an agency and want an independent second opinion.

It's not for you if:

- You want a list of errors from an automated tool. For that, the tool is enough.
- Your site has few pages and almost no traffic. There, working on content pays off more than auditing.

## An audit is useful if it tells you what to ignore

Any tool hands you hundreds of warnings. Most of them do not cost you a single visit. The value of an audit is in separating the three or four problems that do cost you traffic from the rest, and in telling you in what order to attack them.

That is why I do not audit URL by URL, but by page type. A problem is almost never in a single page: it is in the template that generates it, and with it in all its siblings. And quality is measured at the site level, so one weak page type can be dragging down the good ones.

## What I look at

- **Search Console by page type**: Indexing, queries and clicks for each type of page, not for the site as a whole. That shows which part adds and which subtracts.
- **Logs versus sitemaps**: Which URLs Googlebot visits, which it ignores and where crawl budget goes: parameters, facets or pagination nobody searches for.
- **Signals that contradict each other**: Canonicals pointing one way, hreflang another and sitemaps a third. Google ends up choosing for you.
- **The four pillars of quality**: Effort, originality, who signs it and whether it is correct, reviewed page type by page type.
- **The commodity test**: If you swap your brand for a competitor's and the page is worth the same, it is commodity. Those pages lose in Google and in AI.
- **Your competitors, in AI too**: Who ranks for your queries and who ChatGPT and AI Overviews cite when someone asks about your space.

## The quality audit of my own site

Before auditing anyone else's site, I ran the quality audit on nachomascort.com: one page from each page type, scored on the four pillars. The full report, with what I changed and the second pass, is published.

- Services: 9/16 → 10/16 · partly commodity
- SEO Hacks archive (2015–2017): the page type that scores worst

It is the same format I deliver to a client: a score by page type, the reason behind each score and what to change first.

## How we work

1. **Call and access**: We talk about the business, the site's history and recent changes. You give me access to Search Console, analytics and, if possible, server logs.
2. **Crawl and data**: A full crawl, logs and indexing, and a table by page type that crosses the SEO status of each page type with the revenue it brings.
3. **Diagnosis**: The main problem and what it is worth to solve it, the quality review by page type and a comparison with your competitors in Google and in AI.
4. **Plan and session**: I deliver the prioritized plan, already broken into initiatives and tasks, and we go through it with your team in a session.

## What you get

- **Diagnosis by page type**: I group URLs by page type and look at traffic, indexing and growth for each group. That shows which parts of the site add and which subtract.
- **Crawling and indexing**: A full crawl, server logs if you have them and Search Console: what Google crawls, what it indexes and what stays out.
- **Quality review**: Each page type against the criteria Google uses to measure quality: effort, originality, who signs it and whether it is correct.
- **Prioritized action plan**: Each problem with its estimated impact, its effort and who has to fix it. Ordered so your team starts with what pays off most.
- **Session with your team**: I walk you and whoever will execute it through the plan, and we answer questions. That way the audit does not end up in a drawer.

## Results

- [Softonic: from 0 to 20 million sessions a month in two years](https://nachomascort.com/en/case-studies/softonic-0-to-20-million/): A core update cost us a little over 20% of traffic. When we analyzed the causes, the problem was in the translations, and with the next core update the main domain went past its previous level.
- [word.tips: how I doubled traffic on a site with 2 million visits a day](https://nachomascort.com/en/case-studies/word-tips-2-million-daily-visits/): Performance tracking by template to catch problems before they grew, on a site whose traffic I doubled up to peaks of 2 million visits a day.

## Formats and pricing

- **Audit + action plan**: One month: full diagnosis, a prioritized action plan and a session with your team to walk through it.

Fixed price, which depends on the size of the site and how many page types it has. I send you the proposal in writing after the first call.

I work with at most 4 consulting clients at a time, so I can give each one the time they need.

## FAQ

### What do you need from me to get started?

Access to Search Console and analytics, and if possible, server logs from the last few weeks. With that and a full crawl I have almost everything I need.

### How is this different from a free online audit?

Automated tools list errors, but they do not know which ones matter on your site. Here the work is deciding what is really costing you traffic, in what order to fix it and what you can ignore.

### What does the report look like?

A document built for your team to execute, without 200 pages of screenshots. You can see an example in the quality audit I ran on my own site, published on the Google Quality Audit skill page.

### What happens after the audit?

You can execute it on your own with your team, or we continue with monthly consulting and I lead the execution.

### How much does it cost?

It is a fixed project with a fixed price, which depends mostly on the size of the site and how many page types it has. I give you the number in writing after the first call.
